-The Week Before-
Christmas shopping was one of your favorite parts of Christmas. Right now, you were sitting in the food court of “your” mall – you called it that because you went there for just about everything. You weren’t shopping obsessed, but when there was something that needed to be bought, this would be the first place you’d check...and they’d always have whatever it was that you wanted. It was close to your house, so getting there was never a problem.
You took a bite of your food as you checked off your mental list of people to get presents for. Almost all of your friends had gotten something, except one. Your phone went off; playing the tone you had set for Netherlands. You smiled and picked it up. “Hey, Neth.” You said.
“Hey, (Name), are you still coming over for Christmas with me, or are you going to England’s party with everyone else?” He asked. England had invited both of you to the party, but there was, (quote) “no way in hell” (unquote) he was going to that party and there was no point in trying to convince him either, so you promised you’d stay with him so he wasn’t alone. He still asked you every day to make sure.
“I’m staying with you, Netherlands. How many times do I have to answer that?”
“I was just making sure.”
“Yea, for the twentieth time this month! You’re so paranoid, but at least you care. Now, stop worrying because I’m going to spend all Christmas day with you.” You blushed. Goodness, you were starting to sound like a girlfriend. People usually thought of you as his all of the time. When you two would walk together, you’d always hold onto his arm, or he would put his arm around you, but that was because it was either cold or crowded wherever you were. Whenever one of you was bored, the other would have already called with plans for something random, but you two had known each other for years, so of course you’d have some kind of psychic connection, or you both just happened to be bored that day. Sometimes you wondered how Netherlands felt about this.
“(Name)? Are you still there?” Netherlands’ voice broke you out of your thoughts. “Huh? Yea. There was...um...this...never mind, so, what were you saying?”
“I was asking if you wanted to make dinner for Christmas.”
“Oh. Sure. I’ll also get some movies while I’m here so we don’t get bored, m’kay?”
“Ok. …(Name)?”
“Yes?”
“I .ave s.m.thin. . n..d t. t.ll y.u.”
“What? Netherlands, I can’t here you. I think...we’re breaking up. Try again.”
“(Name)....k ..u ..n je.” Was the last thing you heard before the signal cut off completely. You looked at your phone. No bars. You cursed under your breath. “Maybe tomorrow.” You said as you grabbed your bags and unfinished food and went off to finish the rest of your shopping.
-The Day Of-
You woke up early Christmas morning to get yourself ready. Netherlands hadn’t talked to you all week, which you thought was strange. You two always talked. When you tried calling him, the phone would go straight to voicemail. You tried asking Belgium if she’d seen him, but she said that he’s been locked in his house all week. It worried you. Had your boss not swarmed you with pre-holiday work, you would have headed over to his place sooner.
As you stood outside of Netherlands door – his present in your arms – something hit you. Literally. You turned around and saw two little boys giggling and hiding behind two large snow mounds. You smiled at them. “Hey. Be nice.” You called. You turned back around you Netherlands’ door, it started to open. You looked up and saw Netherlands staring down at you.
“Hey, Netherlands,” You smiled hugging him. “I missed you all week? What’ve you been up to?”
“I...come inside and then we’ll talk.” Netherlands let you in. You shrugged off your coat and hung it on the coat rack while keeping the present safe. You and Netherlands walked into the living room. “So...” You said. “What have you been up to?”
“Hm? Oh. I...” Netherlands sounded uncomfortable. “I was just trying to find a present for you. You never really told me what you wanted to I had to guess. It was hard and I needed to ask for help.”
This surprised you. He was a xenophobe, right? How could he have asked for help? Belgium? No; she wouldn’t have been able to keep a secret from you. Then who?
“I’ll tell you more tonight.” Netherlands said. You could tell he really just wanted to get off of the topic.
“Ok.” You said. “Did you already eat breakfast?”
“No. I was waiting for you.”
You smiled, blushing a little. “Then, I’ll get started on that and then on dinner.”
-Later That Day-
After dinner, you and Netherlands just sat in his living room. Belgium called once to ask how you two were doing. Other than that, you spent the rest of the night alone with each other. Netherlands put a movie in and you sat next to him, one blanket wrapped around both of you. He was lying back, his arms stretched out behind him and you, and you were leaning against him, a light blush covering your face.
“(Name)?”
“Yes, Netherlands?”
“You’ve been holding that present all day. Is that for me or are you just in love with that box?” You blushed more. “Oh. Sorry. I guess it must have slipped my mind.” You held the box up to him. “Here, Merry Christmas.” Netherlands took the gift and unwrapped it. It was a small painting you did of a bunny from the pet store. “I-hope you like it. I didn’t know what else to get you.”
Netherlands looked down at you and gave you a small smile. “Thanks, (Name).” He put the painting on the coffee table in front of him. “Now for my gift.” Netherlands dug into his pocket and pulled something out. His hand remained closed. “Close your eyes for me, ok?”
You closed your eyes. What could he...You’re thoughts were interrupted by a sudden pressure against your lips. Your eyes widened in shock, but you closed them again as you started to melt into the kiss. Netherlands pulled away when the need for air became too great. You were blushing madly while he had a smirk on his face. He chuckled. “So what Spain told me was right.”
“Wh-what?”
“Spain told me you liked me and I wanted to see if it was true. Looks like it was.”
You blushed more and looked down. Netherlands wrapped one arm around you and turned back to the movie. You just sat there, blushing.

Hold on. How the HELL did Spain know that?!
Me: Finally. The last day and, as promised, it’s Netherlands. I’m kinda glad it’s over. Twenty-three oneshots and two 2-part stories in 25 days.
Netherlands: Why as I last?
Me: Because YOU were my main reason for starting this.
Netherlands: Didn’t that have something to do with your kitten and nachos?
Me: I’m not going to waste anyone’s time by explaining how, but they all did.
Netherlands: There’s something wrong with you.
Me: Everyone knows that.

I don’t think I’ll be doing another series like this. Maybe a 12 days of Christmas next year with some of the characters I missed this year, but I doubt it. Oh, and for the Iceland thing, there’s a hint in the 33rd line. Good luck.
