It took some time and a lot of struggling, but Mr. Puffin had managed to make it to your house. It wasn't that far away, but still quite a distance to travel for such a little bird, even though he was rushing. You'd think he'd be used to it by now, but usually, he was on Iceland's shoulder. Today, though, he couldn't do that and there was a very good reason why.
He went through the open window and perched himself on the sill. "Yo, (Name), where are you?!" He called out, sounding as if out of breath.
You look up at him from the report you were writing for your boss at your desk in the corner. "Hm? Oh, hi, Mr. Puffin. What brings you here?"
"You gotta come quickly…to Iceland's place! It's urgent!"
You put your pen down, now worried. "Why? What happened? Is Emil all right?"
"You'll see when we get there! Just hurry before it's too late!"
You stood up, grabbed your jacket and headed to your car, Mr. Puffin following you. He relaxed himself in the passenger seat while you drove off as quickly as you could.
-
You made it to Iceland's house without much incident, surprisingly. You and Mr. Puffin got out of your car and you used your spare key to get in. Everything seemed normal. "I don't get it, where's the…?"
"Ice's room! Go! Now!"
"Ok! Ok!" You ran up the stairs to where you knew Iceland's room was. You opened the door and almost dropped to the floor. "Wh-what the…" Iceland was lying still on his bed; hand over his chest, eyes closed. You covered your mouth and tried your best not to laugh at him.
Tiny puffins! Tiny puffins everywhere! All over him, they were sleeping or pulling at his clothes and hair; there was one just sitting there, sparkling for some reason. You looked at the little gray tufts of feathers in awe. And Iceland was asleep, having no idea what was going on.
"Quick. You gotta take a picture." Mr. Puffin tried to whisper. Now you understood why he was rushing. He couldn't use a camera, but he didn't want to miss this.
You grabbed the camera from Iceland's dresser, since you left your phone in the car by accident, and took as many pictures as you could from different angles. You didn't want to miss a single thing.
Iceland's eyes twitched from the flash. He groaned and opened them. "Hng….wh-what..." Iceland opened his eyes and groggily turned his head to the side, causing the small puffin resting on his head to roll off and land on the pillow. "(N-name)?" He lowered his eyes, looking around him.
...
"WHAT ARE ALL THESE PUFFLINGS DOING ON ME?!"
You and Mr. Puffin let all the laughs you'd been holding in. Iceland sat up and a few more pufflings to roll off of him and onto the bed. They all moved to sit on his lap.
"Awe! That's so cute! They think you're they're daddy!" You laughed, wiping a tear from your eye. Iceland blushed. "D-Daddy? Where did they even come from?" Both of your eyes turned to Mr. Puffin. "Hey, don't look at me. I just saw them there." He defended himself. You looked back at the pufflings and picked the sparkling one up. "I think they're all just adorable." You said, sitting down next to Iceland. You put the puffling back with the others.
"Yea, I guess they are…" He looked at your hand. "Is that a camera?"
"Um..."

"Mr. Puffin, catch!" You tossed the camera before Iceland could take it away from you and Mr. Puffin caught it with his talent. He flew out the open window and disappeared from sight.
"(Name)?!"
"Sorry, Icey, it had to be done." The pufflings chirped cutely to get his attention. You giggled. "I think they're hungry, daddy." Iceland blushed more now and then sighed. "I have some small fish in the fridge…"
-Later-
"Wow; they're so cute!" Finland laughed, holding one of the pufflings. Of course when Mr. Puffin left with the camera, his first objective was to show the other Nordics, who all had to come and see them. Denmark laughed at him, and still was laughing.
Anyway…
"They're kind of annoying." Iceland admitted. The one on his head pulled at his hair. "Ow. They won't stop pecking at me and won't get off."
"They're just babies and they like you." You said. You picked up the one from his head and cuddle it. Iceland groaned. "They like you more. Why don't you take them?"
"What? I don’t know anything about caring for puffins."
"Hey, I have an idea." Finland smiled. "Why don't you raise them together, like parents?" You and Iceland blushed and looked at him. "Wh-what?!"
"Yea! I mean, you guys are a couple anyway, right?"
You both looked at each other, blushed more and then looked away. "No we're not!"
Denmark stopped laughing, Finland stopped smiling and Norway and Sweden just gave you both confused-ish-looking looks. "You're not?"
"Of course we're not! Me and (Name) together?! I would never even consider it! What on earth would make you think something so absurd? " Iceland protested in disbelief, face a very bright red. Probably not his best idea…
"Well, you guys always-"
"Wait- Wait just one moment." You interrupted Finland. All eyes turned to you, but yours focused on Iceland, a mix of pain and confusion in them. "Is the idea of dating you really that bad, Emil?"
And that would be why…
Iceland opened his mouth to say something, but stopped himself. Finally seeing the error of what he had said. Oh damn…
"Well‽" You questioned, impatiently. You crossed your arms and tapped your foot, waiting for a response, while Iceland tried to mull over how he could get himself out of this. The others could feel the pressure and awkwardness of the situation and so, kept quiet, constantly looking back and forth at you and Iceland. Even the little pufflings were quiet; confused, but still quiet.
With all this pressure, Iceland cracked and out came his senseless, male pride. "What does it even matter to you?"
"Well, you seemed so sure it was a horrible idea a few seconds ago. I want to know why."
"You don't need to know why!"
"I want to!"
"Too bad!"
Now absolutely livid, you stood up with your fists and teeth clenched tight. "I cannot believe you!"
"Me‽ What did I do‽ You're the one yelling like a mad woman!"
Your jaw nearly dropped as you gasped. "You know what; I don't need to take this! I'm going home!"
"Good riddance then!"
You walked away with your head up to the door. "Oh, by the way," You said, reaching for your wrist. "You can have this back." You pulled off a silver bracelet, causing some of the charms with the exception of one to fall off around the floor. You tossed it at him, hitting him in the center of his forehead. You turned on your heel and left, slamming the door behind you.
You immediately regretted everything the second you went outside, but it was too late to turn back now. Not that it would make much of a difference; you didn’t want him yelling at you anymore. You sat on the porch, silently hoping for Iceland to come out and apologize and you could make up and everything would be all right again. Tough luck.
To your surprise, the door did open, but it wasn't who you hoped, more who you expected. "Big brother to the rescue, huh?" Finland smiled a sweet smile at you and sat next to you on the porch. "Penny for your thoughts, (Name)?"
You pulled your knees to your chest. He put his hand on your back. "Talk to me."
You leaned your head against his shoulder, looking for the comforting support. "Is the idea of dating you really that bad? I-I mean… not like I've ever thought about us dating before today, I mean." You said and blushed. Ok, so maybe you had a minor crush on him since a little while back…to the days when you were just a Finnish colony, but you know. Not like you were madly in love or anything.
"Oh come on, you know I know you better than that." Finland laughed. You sighed, defeated and then continued. "I don't understand. What, exactly, did I do that would put me at such bad standing…before now, I mean? I always thought I was such a good friend. We hang out with him a lot, I help with his work; I always come to the rescue when Denmark is being… well… Denmark. I just don't get it. What did I ever really do to him? Am I not pretty enough? Am I not fun enough to be around? Did all those years of supposedly being "best friends" with him mean nothing? Was he just humoring me or something?"
"Look, I get that you're upset, but I think you're blowing this all out of proportion. Why not take a few deep breaths, go back inside and we can work everything out, ok?"
You sniffled. "Ok."

The second you were out of his view, Iceland already began regretting what had happened, but with everyone watching, there was no way he could swallow his pride and do anything about it. He looked at the one charm left on the bracelet that had fallen to his lap after it had hit him; a small, brass puffin with a licorice rope in its beak. He'd given it to you on your birthday several years before. What better way to remember him when you two weren't able to see each other?
"Man did you screw that up." Denmark spoke what everyone was thinking. "Shut up, Denmark." Iceland snapped. As if he really needed him saying anything right now.
"Hey, don't yell at me! I didn't do anything!"
"Denmark, stop," Norway intervened before Denmark could say something even more stupid that would only make things worse. "What he's trying to say," Norway continued. "Is that you should go and apologize to (Name)."
"Why should I apologize to her when she's the one who over reacted?"
Norway put his hand on Iceland's shoulder. "Calm yourself, Emil. It's better if you do. Even if you didn't mean what you said that way she thinks, it sounded like it to her and you need to set things straight." There was no denying it, when Norway was right, he was right. And usually, he was right. He picked up the charm and placed it into Iceland's palm. "Besides, Mr. Puffin already told everyone else you've been in love with her since you were kids, you might as well tell her yourself." He gathered the pufflings up, so they wouldn't fall off and nudged Iceland out of the room. "Now, go. Go! See if you can catch her."
Iceland didn't even bother protesting, but he was going to get Mr. Puffin later.

You dried your tears and stood up. "Ready?" Tino asked, standing with you. You nodded in response. "Yea; I am." Tino smiled at you and you smiled back, you reached to grab the knob of the door, but it opened itself, leaving you face to face with Iceland. Tino gave you a nod before sneaking in past Iceland. So it was just you and Iceland outside, now.
"H-hey…" Was all you had said. You know what you wanted to say, but it didn't come out. You both stood their awkwardly silent, waiting for the other to break the ice. Since neither of you did, you both decided to. What?
"Look I-" You both stopped. "You first." You insisted. "No, you."
"Fine…Look I…if you want to say something…Then I'll just…I want to say…I'M SORRY!!!"
Finally, it was said, and you both were shocked to hear it from the other. Iceland spoke up before things got awkward again…awkward-er. "(Name), you don't need to be sorry…"
"No! I do. I blew what you said completely out of proportion. I shouldn't have over-reacted the way I did."
"But I should never have said what I did. It was wrong of me. I didn't realize it would hurt you."
"Well, it did a little…what do you way we start over? And act like nothing ever happened?"
"OH WOULD YOU TWO JUST MAKE OUT ALREADY?"
You both turned pink and looked above you to see Denmark sticking his head out of a window. A hand covered his mouth and pulled him in. A loud smack and a whine came shortly after. "Ow~!"
Iceland shook his head and sighed. "That idio…wait…that was my bedroom window! MATHIAS!!!" Iceland rushed back inside, only to stop and run back to you. He took one of your hands in both of his and then gently kissed you. "Oh, by the way," He said once he pulled away. "You can have this back." Then he ran back inside.
You looked at your hand and saw your bracelet. You'd have to find the other charms and fix it soon, but there were more things to tend to. You put it in your pocket and ran in. "Hey! If you hit him, don't do it in front of the puffins! They're too young to see such aggressive behavior."
Request by :iconnadeshikofan:. I got stuck with work, bad, but I'm pulling through. Thank you for not yelling at me for being late.

I just realized that, for some reason, even though I call them by their country names in the story, everyone always refers to each other by their real names when speaking. Huh. Weird.
Expect to see the baby puffins again if I get around to writing anything else with Iceland in it.
